Fishabout - Lake Katherine - Georgina River QLD

Departed King Ash Bay - a few veggies at the Red Dirt store in Borroloola. No rush - breakfast at Cape Crawford, we let this
road train ahead of us as he will be pushing us all the way down the Barkley Tablelands Hwy.

Station hands motor cycle mustering

This trailer pulled up along side us in Mt Isa - K mart car park. Transporting goats, the fellow wander up with supplies. An unusual load - Trekking down the Georgina River from Camooweal to Birdsville. Using 12 goats to carry his supplies, will take about 3 month he reckons - averaging 12 k's a day

One of the saddles he uses for the goats

We left King Ash Bay on Saturday, Bill and Luba left on Monday. They pulled up along side us in Mt Isa on Tuesday.

Drop by the folks at Alderley station we were
 care takers on in 2010.

Bush barber - no thanks, I will wait a bit longer

Radha and daughter off for a ride and check on some cattle.

Frank arrived back at the station late in the evening after delivering some cattle. Felix the fellow on the left, Googled Alderley Station when looking for work details out Bush.
Came up with our blog from 2010. He thought we were the owners of the station, but when Frank showed up at the airport to pick him up, he wasn't sure what was going on.

This is where we are heading - Lake Katherine a permanent water hole, on the Georgina River.

The Georgina River is the north-westernmost of the three major rivers of the Channel Country in Central West Queensland that flow in extremely wet years into Lake Eyre.
The river rise from several smaller streams over a wide area of northwestern Queensland and the eastern Northern Territory. These include the Burke River, flowing through the basin's major town of Boulia, the upper Georgina River itself rising in the Barkly Tableland north of Camooweal, the Ranken River rising in the extreme east of the Northern Territory beyond Tennant Creek, and the Sandover River. The Sandover, unlike all other tributaries of Lake Eyre, flows northwards from the Macdonnell Ranges to enter the Georgina in very wet years near Urandangi. The basin of the Georgina totals around 232,000 km², or about the same size as the Australia state of Victoria, but because it is so arid, its mean annual flow is only about 0.7 km3 (570,000 acre·ft).[2] However, there is such extreme variation that - although streamgauging records are too poor to prove it conclusively - meteorological records leave no doubt that there have been many years of zero runoff in the entire basin (1905, 1928 and 1961 would without doubt fit into this category, and several others are likely to as well were decent data available), whilst in very wet years such as 1974, 1977 and 2000, runoff can be as high as 6.28 km3 (5,090,000 acre·ft) or more.
Boulia to refuel and last check of e-mails for 10 - 12 days.
Dropped by Roxbourgh Station the let the folks know we where out at the Lake. Soon on the water.

Our 1st fishing trip - 5 yellow belly & ten barcoo bream.
The fish ID book out just to make sure!

No shortage of RAT'S!

or RED CLAW!

Smoked Barcoo Bream - magic a thin layer
of fat under the skin = perfect!

Hence the name 'RED CLAW'

Time to check out the Bury hands free phone system - failed.
No wonder a complete mess behind the in-dash computer / GPS.
No in-line fuses to the control box as per installation instruction.
4 x 4 fitters are not auto electrician. I am slowly rewiring every thing, soldering and heat shrink all connections.

Had this PIG in my sights. The camp down the river bank putting red claw heads away from his camp to help keep the rat's away from his swag!

Yellow Belly - caught on a sinker and bare hook

Rat's got into the tinnie, destroyed our emergency bag!

Bush Runner

Red Claw to cook!

Two liters +, of red claw meat - Yum!

Great smoker - removed all the jewellery from this electric frying pan. Plus it's a perfect fit for our gas BBQ.

Some ones got the take it easy around here!

Just like the Bird's, heading South.

Next stop Cleve on Eyre Peninsular via
 Birdsville and the Strzelecki Track.
Mind you it will take us 10 days or so - no rush!
